Romanian MPs will spend 3.6 million lei this year just to avoid travelling on Romania's highways. The money will fill the coffers of the Romanian airlines - TAROM - which must reserve seats on any domestic flight for all the MPs who book them. Ordinary Romanians without money to spare will further have to use Romania's sorry excuses for highways and motorways. That's because motorway tenders are contested and their construction is suspended, the legislation allows one to set the highest prices in the world per kilometer of motorway and no construction company has ever been fined for repeated delays.
