Iliescu faces crimes against humanity charges

Ion Iliescu is facing prosecution on charges of crimes against humanity! The first President of post-communist Romania learned from the Prosecutor General's office yesterday morning that he stands accused in the... "Miners' Raid" case, 25 years after he brought miners to savagely suppress a protest movement in Bucharest during his tenure. Also 25 years, but in prison, is the sentence Ion Iliescu is facing in case he is found guilty. Four people died and around one thousand were wounded in June 1990, when club-wielding miners attacked demonstrators in Bucharest.
